SessionA New Storage Engine Specialized for MOLAP
Juergen Faisst, Chief Operating Officer, Thinking Networks AG
When thinking about Business Intelligence, database developers consider buzz words like data warehouse or ETL. But Business Intelligence is not only about analyzing data from a data warehouse. There is another set of Business Intelligence applications that require multiuser write-back of data, sometimes even on aggregated levels. I am talking about applications for planning and budgeting. What methods must a database provide in order to support a simultaneous bottom-up and top-down budgeting process? What kind of calculation engine is needed for statutory consolidation in a multicurrency environment? How shall a database handle time series analysis when meta data like organization structure is changing over time? This talk will introduce a new community project adding a proven multidimensional storage and calculation engine (MOLAP) to MySQL.
